Steve Packer & Rene Stephens claimed the Commitee cup on Saturday before the County game v Durham took place. 16 men were (originally) paired with 16 women for this tournament played at Armley Sports Centre. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Steve Packer & Rene Stephens beat off Tony Farrar & Jim Hobbs to clinch the cup which was played in good spirit by all.
The Short Mat AGM held at Armley Park on Sunday 22 April was it's usual controversial self! Keith Worrall, who now steps down as chairman of the Leeds Short Mat Bowling is now replaced with Ron Lavan who has all the credentials needed for a high profile role in the circuit. Various new formats were all suggested in the Leeds leagues including 2 divisions of 4 teams as opposed to 1 division of 8 but was defeated. Keith Worrall has done a sterling job at the helm of Leeds Short Mat Bowls, it'll be somewhat of a reality check for him not to be on the head table during the 2012-13 season.

The West Yorkshire AGM folowed shortly after the Leeds meeting had concluded with pretty much the same people in attendance for this one too. North Yorkshire's move to the ICC was confirmed and maybe Stockport may be tempted too, "North Yorkshire A are defectors, i encourage you all to look up that word!" - a parting shot by Keith Worrall which in some respects is right (having consulted the dictionary) Judith Highcock was also confirmed as West Yorkshire "B" skipper with Shirley Rhodes as her vice captain. For me, I rejoin the A side full time, not sure of which discipline i'll be in but I'll play where i'm needed. In my captain's report i did mention that all those players who could of played but didn't for what ever reason should step up to the plate in this coming season and do their utmost for the county A and B sides. Andy Miles also steps down as Competition secretary and was commended for his and Barbara's fantastic smooth running of Barnard Castle, I hope his successor(s) can fill the Miles' boots mid March 2013.

CHAMPIONS AGAIN!!
NEW BEDE were crowned champions of the competitive Friday Evening Leeds Short Mat League for the first time since the late 1990's in some style on Friday 16th March. Royston Lewis (c) Alan Byers, Gordon Summers, Russ Ruddiman, Rene Stephens, Steve Packer & John Packer saw off Cranmore, Dot.Com, Dynamo's, HiJackers, Hilltoppers, Farnley and Holbeck over the 24 week league. "Consistency and partnership was the key, we kept the same system for 3/4 of the season, and thats how we won it i think.... Oh, and some skill too!!" - Royston.

Try turning the mats round so they go in the same direction as the floor boards.
